Peterborough Predators Vs Milton Keynes Rumble - Stuart Allen Memorial - 19th May 2012
A hatrick from Andy Crichton-Smith and a brace from Scott Van Slyk secured a 4-5 win for Milton Keynes Rumble in the Stuart Allen Memorial game to bring home the shield.
Every player had a massive part in what turned out to be a close game at the final buzzer, despite MKR building a healthy lead of 4-1 going into the third and extending it to 5 goals to 1 early on in the third.
Rumble were first on the scoreboard with a goal from Andy Crichton-Smith (John Pankhurst) at 3:34, before Predators tied the game at 8:45 with a goal through Carl Lambert (Jamie Hoyt, Paul Osbourne). Andy Crichton-Smith (Sy Stevens) scored his second to put Rumble back in the lead and Scott Van Slyk (Pete Cutforth) doubled the lead to send Rumble in to the 1st Intermission leading 3 goals to 1.
The second started as the first ended with good pressure by Rumble only to be rewarded with 1 goal, a hatrick goal from Andy Crichton-Smith (Chris Bayley, John Pankhurst) timed at 31:33 to put Rumble 3 goals up. The second period ended with rumble 4-1 up.
The third started well for rumble and at 48:52 Scott Van Slyk (Diane Ward, Kevin Leggett) put Rumble up by 4. Predators scored 4 minute later, again through Carl Lambert (Dave Inglis) at 52:36. As Rumble seemed to take their foot off the gas Predators scored 2 goals in quick succession. The first coming at 57:53 from Pete Freeland (Tim Freeland), a 4 on 4 goal whilst Andy Crichton-Smith and Paul Osbourne were sitting coincidental roughing penalties. Predators forth goal coming just 6 seconds later at 57:59 again from Pete Lambert (Unassisted) which set the game up for a tense final 2 minutes. A perfectly called Timeout by Rumble, stand in bench coach, Mel Goodall settled the nerves. Rumble stood strong and despite Predators pulling their netminder won the game 5 goals to 4.
